But it wasn't until 2001 after we had moved to Devon that we really started to become involved with belly dancing. An acquaintance asked Pam if she would like to accompany her to a belly dance class which had recently started in our area. And so it was that Pam took her first tremulous steps into the real belly dancing world and never looked back. Her enthusiasm knew no bounds and before long we were collecting the inevitable Hossam Ramzy tapes and CDs, raking out the music tapes we had brought back from Egypt and Turkey, buying loads of sequins, beads and other essentials for making costumes, and above all, meeting lots of new friends. Pam's self confidence blossomed, and before long we were using our collective talents to compose her first choreographed solo which was to be performed in front of her class and a rather staid audience at a local
retirement  home. But they loved it. And so did Pam. Not that she would dare perform that particular routine again, knowing what she knows today! Back then though we thought it was absolutely great. Like so many other enthusiastic student dancers, Pam's hunger for more and more knowledge remained unabated and Vern was being drawn deeper and deeper into her new world. Not that he minded at all. Going to haflahs, theatre productions, village fetes, carnivals and so-on to see Pam and her friends perform their marvelous routines was well worth any effort needed on his part. More often than not, there's generally a need for a backroom boy somewhere along the line. As time went on, we became more involved in the wider panorama of belly dancing, particularly here in the southwest. We were chatting to a well known South Devon teacher at that time who was having trouble maintaining her website and keeping it up to date, and she asked if we knew of anyone who could take a look at it for her. We did know of someone. Vern! Before very long, the site was rebuilt from scratch and has continued to be maintained, and now run, by Vern. And it led to the discovery of a rather remarkable fact. Wannabe belly dancers all over the region could not find or didn't know how to find a class or teacher near to where they lived. We were getting several e-mails a month asking us for help. Sometimes we were able to point the enquirer in the right direction but usually not. So the germ of an idea began to form. Build a new website designed to point students to teachers and classes, and vice versa. Hm.... Could be a lot of fun. And that is just what happened, plus a lot of frustration and a few tears on the way. It's taken us much longer than we originally envisaged but we think we've got there in the end. We hope you like our site and find it useful and, maybe, interesting. Feel free to drop us a line with any suggestions or comments you wish to make. In the meantime, keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep dancing!
'Us' is a couple of guys, Pam and Vern, who love and enjoy almost every facet of music and rhythm and dance, and having fun with it too. Music and dance have played a major role in both our lives from early childhood through to the mid nineties when we discovered belly dance whilst on a Nile cruise from Cairo to Aswan. Some time later we did a Grand Tour of Turkey and were treated to a different style of  the  dance  to  that which we  had seen in Egypt. Again we found the haunting music and the unusual rhythms exciting, fascinating and unforgettable.
